Have you looked at social media lately on Thursdays? You must, it's dreadfully funny! Whenever my midlife generation of friends and colleagues do a Throwback Thursday it goes straight to the 80's! Oh how we loved the 80's… Personally, I loved everything about it. I looked awful and I still loved it! Like most people I would go back in a heart beat! I think? Big hair, Blue sparkly eyeshadow, Bows in our hair, Bows around our neck, and more Bows around our waist. (Reflect on horrific Bow Dress in picture below) I even had blue contacts late 80's… SCARY! Let me state I had perfect vision and did not need contacts. They were purely cosmetic, and why not? High Fashion and Excess were pouring out of shows like Dallas and Dynasty. Seriously, who didn't want to be part of the Ewing family from Southfork or the Carringtons from the ritzy suburbs of Denver. (Are you humming the tunes for these prime time soap operas yet? They will be stuck in you head all day.) How could you even think of getting dressed without hairspray, shoulder pads, big earrings and leg warmers? Go grab a Bartles & Jaymes Wine Cooler and enjoy the 80 Greatest '80 Fashion Trends! A moving nostalgic moment to say the least. My most favorite movies, songs, memories, television shows are all in the 80's. What makes this decade nostalgic? Our age maybe… will the 90's be nostalgic in 20 years? Were we all lost in the American Dream?
Many of the songs that we enjoyed from the 80's were REMAKES… say it isn't so but yes. They sounded so much better with that 80's flavor! Don't worry it was also a creative and innovative generation, artists made some amazing hits that kids today are enjoying. I break out in song every now and then with my young adults in the car because this generation is REMAKING the hell out of the 80's! Music and Movies also helped define our fashion more than ever back then. Gloves without fingers, thank you Madonna. Ray Bans, but of course after Risky Business, Ferris Bueller, and Miami Vice. No Thank you for the Parachute Pants MC Hammer! Heavens I hear they are back in style. I would not lie to you, here is a website selling them www.parachute-pants.com egads! I can honestly say I leaned closer to preppy and worshiped Ralph Lauren! It was the era of the P's! If you weren't Preppy you were a Power Dresser or Punked Out with a Mohawk or a Mullet.
There was plenty of news in the 80's with the end of the Cold War! It was real news no sensationalism needed. USA Today.com has some great coverage if you want to take a peek back. The beginning of the electronic age, VHS was introduced, gigantic cell phones were the rage, and the introduction of computers. There were so many things to love about the 80's… movies, celebrities, products, it never ends! Not to mention everyone's list is different because the decade was exploding with so much information and advancements. But there are also things of that decade we hope NEVER come back. For me it has to be neon colors. I just don't look good in neon! Oh wait, and those nasty jelly shoes made my feet sweat. Did I already mention parachute pants? I must say there was more to love than to hate. I know I always promote looking forward in life. Doesn't mean we have to forget the GOOD TIMES! Keep the pics coming on Throwback Thursdays!
Keep looking forward so you don't miss what God puts in front of ya!
